The Lifelong Learning Institute

Course Offerings

Who Are We? Our Mission

The Lifelong Learning Institute at Armstrong Atlantic University (AASU-LLI) is an organization made up of a community of Chatham County adult learners (age 50 and older) who design its college-level curriculum according to the needs and interests of its members. Their common bonds are intellectual curiosity and the experience of their generation. The members share their knowledge and expertise with humor, creativity, and mutual respect. The AASU-LLI offers courses, seminars, presentations and cultural events designed by and directed towards adult learners.

As a member of the Elderhostel Institute Network (EIN), the AASU-LLI is the 354th LLI in the United States embracing the fundamental philosophy that education is a life-long pursuit which enhances the lives of all people. Almost all of these LLIs are associated with a university or college. We are a comprehensive adult educational organization with "a home" at AASU whose members come from all of Chatham County and who govern, formulate and carry out programming for the benefit of the membership. We rely on our host universitiy (AASU) and other member LLIs in the Elderhostel Institute Network for support and guidance.

Key Factors of an LLI:

All LLI activities are directed by the student members who will work with AASU to:

  • Choose the curriculum
  • Set the dues and class fees
  • Establish the guidelines for governance
  • Provide non-credit college level:
    • Discussion groups
    • Lectures
    • Seminars
    • Special cultural performances
There are:
  • No prior educational requirements
  • No tests or grades

Facility Location
